Mozilla Firefox came out with a new rolling update to their already powerful browser. However with Chrome’s shares going up and Firefox’s going down, will this update make more users stay with firefox?
Here is a list of new things in Firefox 11:
Firefox can now migrate your bookmarks, history, and cookies from Google Chrome
Now if you are wanting to switch from chrome to firefox, they have made it extremely easy to do so now. This is good, because some people who started out with chrome or who have been using chrome for sometime now and want to switch back to firefox will definitely want to keep all their information from one browser to the next.
With Sync enabled, add-ons can now be synchronized across your computers
Not only can your bookmarks be synced across multiple computers, you can sync all your addons. this is a great advantage to those who have multiple computers. Although I must admit I have not been using this feature, I do want to start using it.
Coding Delights
Some new stuff is now supported in firefox:
- The CSS text-size-adjust property is now supported
- The outerHTML property is now supported on HTML elements
- View source syntax highlighting now uses the HTML5 parser (see bug 482921)
- Redesigned media controls for HTML5 video
As well as developer additions:
- The Style Editor for CSS editing is now available to web developers
- Web developers can now visualize a web page in 3D using the Page Inspector 3D View
- SPDY protocol support for faster page loads is now testable
- XMLHttpRequest now supports HTML parsing
- Files can now be stored in IndexedDB (see bug 661877)
- Websockets has now been unprefixed
The new 3D view looks AWESOME. However I do not see how useful it could be in the real world. If you have any suggestions let me know. Here is what http://www.hightek-designs.com looks like:
Bug Fixes
- Various security fixes
- Firefox notifications may not work properly with Growl 1.3 or later (691662)
I must say, this update didn’t really bring too much to the table. However, looking at what is coming for this year, I am excited to see the new updates! I can not use another browser, unless firefox becomes too slow to use. which for me, has not happened.
